John Bowers specialised in electronics and radio-transmission for Special Operations during World War II and after the war he opened a retail hi-fi store with his business partner Roy Wilkins.
He started building his own designs in the workshop at the back of his hi-fi store. John passed away in 1987.
Now under the chairmanship of Joe Atkins the passion for music, so deeply engrained by John Bowers and remembered by many still at B&W that worked for him in the early days, remains a core value of the company he founded.

A laboratory is not a factory; it is a place where people search for ways to improve the quality of life, where things are designed and built to an ever-higher standard, instead of a price.
By design... there is nothing like a McIntosh.

Our furniture begins with a love of modern design - the simple, refined lines and functional forms the century's most important designers have embraced. It reflects stringent principles; every product has timeless looks and incorporates unstinting quality. Beyond this, our products are designed for a fast-moving electronic age, an era in which furniture must accommodate the changing requirements of its owners.
